TULUM!!!
TULUM!! Imagine having a place right in the most poppin' part of town in Tulum with 10 of the most fun people to drink and have fun with. Well, that's what Tulum was for me. We rented an AirBnb that was an apartment directly above a restaurant, on a street with some of the most popular bars in the area. It was amazing. We were a mere 30 (or so) minute bike ride from the beach, an hour-long shuttle from Mayan archaeological sites and cenotes, and of course right in the heart of the town. This trip was a perfect start of my last real summer and end of my undergraduate career. Hopefully, however, not the end of going coll places and having tons of fun with awesome friends.
A beautiful beach view. Through our AirBnb we had discounted access to a beach club on the more expensive (I think?) side of the Tulum beaches. We had been to the public beach the day before, but this day we taxied out here, lounged, drank, hookah'd, swam, played half-sports in the sand. All was dandy until one of our friends Alex sliced her foot on some broken glass in the pool :( . I felt so bad for her but she managed it like a tank and got bandaged up and didn't even seem to bothered by it all. We ended up getting a ride back from one of the employee's friends or something - I'm not sure, Zara brokered the deal, but whoever it was it was much cheaper than multiple taxis and we had fun riding in the back of the pickup (shown in the images at top!).
The boys at a cenote. Thanks to Auva for the great pic! This day we took a van out to Coba, where we spent a few hours walking around an awesome Mayan site which I forget the name of. We then wanted to try to visit a cenote and get rewarded with the sweet cool water. However, (just our luck) the only bike rental in town was closed for some reason, and taxis were nowhere to be found. So we began to walk, which was going to be about 5 miles, while searching for possible other routes. We landed at a juice stand, where the man served us some delicious juice and then kindly called a taxi for us! He then took us to the cenote, waited an hour for us, and took us all the way back to Tulum. Juice man was clutch (Auva and Max are seen with the mentioned juice in the images at top).
Auva and I out at some bar in Tulum. I don't know if this was the one, but we went a couple times to a place where everything was 23 pesos. For the uninformed, this is very cheap. Essentially a dollar a shot, a drink, a low-quality plate of small tacos. It was a great pregaming place to start off the night! This is just a super cute pic of us two so I had to put it on here.
The tallest structure we saw at the Mayan site, and I think one of the tallest in the Yucutan. Don't quote me on that though, I'm writing this much later. It was astounding! The whole place was crazy cool - how impressively built each building was, and getting to imagine the way of life of the people who built these structures. Apparently you used to be able to climb to the top, but this was recently closed. To be honest, I don't blame them, I'm sure that is quite a destructive activity to the structure.
