Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind

Directed by Hayao Miyazaki (1985)

In my quest to convince Auva that you can't just write off a form of media, we've been watching some classic Studio Ghibli films. So far, Porco Rosso and Princess Mononoke have made the list, and next was Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. Funnily enough, I hadn't actually scene these three before, so I was taking some risk but also got to watch new things. And I'm glad I did, because this movie was awesome! The art, as always, is bonkers; at almost every frame Auva and I said "we should paint that". The fight scenes were dynamic and fun, and Nausicaa's glider is simply a badass device. At the heart of the movie is the theme of harmony with nature (surprise!), and I particularly liked the explanation of the creation and niche of the toxic forests. This one will definitely be on my rewatch list next time I'm craving some Ghibli.
