Spider-Man: No Way Home
Directed by John Watts (2021)
I don't know how to write this one without massive spoilers, so if you haven't seen the movie (and want to see it) stop reading before the next paragraph. For you, I'll say this installment of Spider-Man captures all the Spider-Man virtues we know and love while doing something new and exciting with the character. Cool fights, funny moments, and all the other typical Marvel jazz are done well too.
Alright, now to discuss the actual movie. First off, it is freaking insane they actually pulled this off. Including not only the previous Spider-Man movies' villains but the previous Spider-Men themselves is just wild. The idea of that 5 years ago would sound like some stupid internet theory! And the best part is they did it amazingly. Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield are perfect in there roles and the movie gives great resolution to their characters, sort of giving closure to those previous movies as well. It does this without sacrificing the main point of the film - being a Tom Holland Spider-Man movie. We still get great character development for the MCU's Peter Parker and it ties in to the other MCU films well. My main issue with the film lies in Doctor Strange being somewhat of a pushover and a bit unintelligent. I feel like his whole thing is he thinks of all the possibilities and is super wise and awesome and powerful, and then we see him just say sure to Peter's crazy request and then not shut him up when he tries to interfere with the spell! And also Peter beating Strange in the mirror dimension was wild. That being said, the rest of the movie is great and Dafoe as Green Goblin is ridiculously scary - the fight scene in the hallway is one of my favorite in all of the MCU. I'm interested to see if the consequences of the movie - everyone forgetting Parker - continue into the future in the Marvel-verse or if they "fix" it in the next movie.
Definitely recommend if your at all a fan of Marvel, Spider-Man, or fun movies.
