Memento
Directed by Christopher Nolan (2000)
I had watched this movie a while back, but my roommates and girlfriend and I were looking for something to all watch together, and many of them hadn't seen it. Also, I'm a sucker for re-watching movies when I get to show them to someone else!
I don't want to spoil anything, so I won't go into much detail, but the premise of Memento is the best part. Just imaging what it would be like to be in the main characters shoes is mind-breaking. Beyond the premise, this movie makes you think about the plot and leaves you with a lot of questions; what the truth is anyone's guess. But this leads me back to the premise being the best part: how moldable, breakable, and poor human memory is. Can you remember what you had for breakfast two days ago? Are you sure that's what you said? Did you just check the time? Everyone's truth is heavily influenced by outside factors but ultimately self-defined, and we see this in the most literal form in Memento. (02/17/21)
