Free Guy

Directed by Shawn Levy (2021)

Free Guy: a tale of a video-game world where Ryan Reynolds plays an NPC. To be honest, this sounds like the perfect recipe for a movie that's so bad it's good, and you and your friends go to the dollar theater to watch it and develop a love-hate relationship with it. However, it turned out be, well, so good it's good! It was a genuinely funny, engaging film that my whole family loved. My brother, the man who has a hard time consuming any media that isn't immediiately deemed "productive". My sister, who we drag out of her room kicking and screaming (not literally of course) to watch a movie with the family. My mom, with her innocent ignorance of pop-culture ("what is birding man?"); and my dad who is typically the ultimate cynic. I've painted fairly one-dimensional pictures of each of my family members; this is not really true but I was aiming to describe why everyone liking this movie is a huge feat.

So yeah, everyone loved it. I would highly recommend, especially if you have a group of diverse movie interests searching for a guaranteed enjoyable movie.
