Catch Me If You Can

Directed by Steven Spielberg (2002)

This was a really fun movie, and the fact that it was based (even slightly) on true events makes it even more fun! I'm writing this a bit late after watching, so some details may be wrong but bear with me.

Catch Me If You Can follows a young man - perhaps you could call him a boy, he's like 17 - who turns to a life of deceit in order to make money. He starts small, but soon realizes with his wits and charisma he can fool many more people, and many more useful people, then the local watchmaker, for example. Pilot, doctor, lawyer, nothing seems impossible for this guy. The movie sort of makes him out to be a badass charming dude, and I'm sure he mostly was. However, as he made it big he caught the attention of the FBI, and after that it was all down hill. At first the story seems intriguing for the average American: Maybe I can con my way to riches! But further thought belies the fact he did all this in less than two years; that is, he was caught in less than two years. Some of his feats were impressive, yes, but at the end of the day it was all so, so temporary.
